RTL box for retrofitting a radiant heating system to conventional heating
The Kompabox RTL is used to control the temperature of underfloor, wall or ceiling heating in conjunction with conventional heating systems with flow temperatures of up to 70°C. Key features include the location between the flow and return pipes of the heating system, and the option to connect an additional bathroom radiator.
The placement between flow and return enables a flow-shut-off for the retrofitted heating surface. This makes maintenance and repairs to the underfloor heating easier, as it is not necessary to drain the entire heating system of water.
The connection option for an additional bathroom radiator or heated towel rail can be used in combination with the H-Block radiator valve and the adjustable radiator tail extension. The additional radiator will then be supplied with the higher flow temperatures of the heating system.
The RTL Box uses a return temperature limiter (RTL) to restrict the maximum return temperature of the retrofitted underfloor heating to 50°C. This protects the radiant heating surface against excessive operating temperatures and prevents the installed materials from overheating.
Thanks to the RTL valve, the temperature of the underfloor heating can be regulated completely independently of the rest of the heating system. This ensures individual heating comfort in the retrofitted rooms.
RTL - How it works
Control is carried out without the need for additional auxiliary energy and can be adjusted individually via the adjusting head of the return temperature limiter.
The change in the temperature of the flowing medium (the controlled variable) is proportional to the change in the valve stroke (the control variable), and this is transmitted to the sensor by heat conduction. When the return temperature rises, the expansion material in the temperature sensor expands, acting on the membrane piston. This throttles or increases the water supply in the underfloor heating circuit via the valve spindle.
The RTL Kompabox is a flush-mounted box with a frame and mounting rail. With installation dimensions of 150×230×60 mm (H×W×D), the Kompabox RTL can accommodate a fourfold distributor for connecting up to four heating circuits. A cover plate is also included. Cover caps for cases where no additional radiator is connected are available to purchase in our shop.
Existing heating pipes can be connected to the box's 3/4" threaded connection using compression fittings. FLEXIRO surface heating systems can be installed without tools using plug-in connectors.
